We’ve traded gatekeepers that sell us irresponsible news (like broadcast TV news) for gatekeepers that sell us to advertisers while allowing community to degenerate to the lowest common denominator (as with Facebook or YouTube). I think there can be a better way, and I’m hoping News.me and others play a part in it.
Excellent analysis. There is a better way, and it will emerge as social software becomes more sophisticated. For our part, we’re trying to help people create better content for social media by collaborating more effectively before they publish.
